FEW PROBLEMS EXPECTED FOR GOLDEN GATE/GLOBAL LINK LOGISTICS CUSTOMERS DESPITE MASSIVE WINTER STORMS

Central and Southern China were in the grip of a series of winter storms worse than any seen in the past fifty years. However, while the interior faced power outages, rail blockages and other transportation problems, including thousands of cancelled flights, port operations remained largely intact, according to Angus Cheung, Trade Specialist for Golden Gate Logistics. “Both ports in Shanghai, Weigaoqiao and Yang Shan, as well as Ningbo port, were fully operational.

Land transportation had been hit the hardest - some power lines were snapped by heavy snow, causing severe congestion, but for Global Link customers the impact has been minimal. Our volume from the central China area remained on target… Shanghai reported less than 5 containers delayed because of weather related problems resulting in cargo being shipped post Lunar New Year. As of Friday, Angus reported that “the snow storm is not over, but we anticipate cargo/port operations will be quite manageable in the next few days before the Lunar New Year holidays.”

One of our customers did report that their freight was delayed due to the vendor’s factory roof collapsing due to accumulated snow and ice.
